Scroll to walk through an example HandUp loan — request, fund, document, repay.
Step 1
Set the terms together
Pick the amount, term, and rate. HandUp shows the IRS Applicable Federal Rate for reference — charging at least the AFR is a common way to keep a family loan from being treated as a gift.
Step 2
Share with people you trust
Send your private link to the people you'd actually call when you're stuck. No public listings, no discovery, no algorithm pushing you to strangers.
Step 3
Lenders commit, the pool fills
Multiple people can fund a single loan. Each lender's share is tracked separately. Nothing is taken from anyone's bank until the loan is fully funded and activated. If it doesn't fund, nothing moves.
Step 4
The agreement is auto-generated
Every loan comes with a written loan agreement — amount, rate, schedule and payment terms — as a PDF you both keep. A copy of every detail is kept for the life of the loan.
Step 5
Scheduled payments handle the rest
Monthly bank transfers on the schedule everyone agreed to. Receipts to both sides. Each payment is held with our payments partner while it clears, then splits to the lenders by share. HandUp's 1.00% fee is added to the borrower's rate.
